SEMI-RIGID, GAS PERMEABLE CONTACT LENSES:<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eaceeff elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"eaceeff\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>These are contact lenses correcting corneal astigmatism and in some cases, irregular astigmatism. Some lenses are especially designed for keratoconus.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a26f92a elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"a26f92a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" id=\"corneal\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">2. CORNEAL CROSS-LINKING :<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-19730e3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"19730e3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>It\u2019s a technique used to freeze the cornea suffering from keratoconus. The principle is applying ultra-violets rays with riboflavin, to induce photo polymerisation of collagen.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Corneal Cross-Linking involves the application of riboflavin and ultraviolet light for a few minutes after mechanical or Excimer laser de-epithelialization of the cornea. The procedure is performed under topical anaesthetic drops.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Pain can occur during the first 24 to 48 hours.<br \/>In some cases, Corneal Cross-Linking is combined with surface treatment using a corneal topography-guided Excimer Laser (PRK or PTK): TOPO-Guided treatment.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Complications of Corneal Cross-Linking:<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:list --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Late epith\u00e9lial corneal healing inducing blurred vision. INTRA-CORNEAL RINGS<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e9a34fc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e9a34fc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Intracorneal rings are PMMA rings inserted into the posterior third of the cornea to flatten the most curved part of the cornea suffering from keratoconus with irregular astigmatism.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>This surgical procedure is performed on an outpatient basis under topical anaesthetic drops and can be combined with Corneal Cross-Linking.\u00a0 It can reduce astigmatism and allow better visual function with glasses or contact lenses.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>COMPLICATIONS OF INTRACORNEAL RINGS<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:list --><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Moderate post operative pain 24H<\/li>\n<li>Halos and glare induced by the rings. It can be penetrating deep or lamellar graft on a part of the center cornea.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>Deep lamellar or penetrating keratoplasty need sutures on the cornea at the end of the surgery.
