EDOF IOLs are designed to correct far and intermediate vision using a bifocal optical system without diffractive multifocality. Their advantage is that they significantly reduce the phenomena of visual disturbances such as night-time glare such as halos, noticed with multifocal IOLs. Glasses may be needed for reading small characters at close range.
