MYOPIA (or Near-sightedness)

  • Myopia occurs when the eyeball is slightly longer than usual. This causes light rays to focus at a point in front of the retina rather than directly on its surface.
  • Far vision is blurry but near vision remains clear.
  • Correction of myopia by glasses, contact lenses or refractive surgery moves back the image to the retina.
PRK and Lasik surgery are able to correct myopia by flattening the cornea.
