Definition: Progressive or acute opacification of the natural lens.
Symptoms and signs:
- Decreased vision
- Poor night vision
- Monocular double vision
- Halos,
- glare and light sensitivity
- Fading or yellowing of colours
Surgical treatment : Phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation. It’s the only treatment for cataract.
Technical surgery : phacoemulsification
- One-day surgery
- Local anaesthesia by eye drops
- Small corneal incision: 1,8 to 2,2 mm
- Fragmentation and aspiration of the natural lens with an ultrasonic hand-piece (phacoemulsificator).
Remplacement du cristallin par un implant pliable de trois types :
- Permettant uniquement la vision de loin sans correction et corrigeant la myopie, l’hypermétropie et l’astigmatisme;
- Permettant la vision éloignée, intermédiaire et rapprochée (Implants Multifocaux);
- Permettant la vision éloignée, intermédiaire sans correction (Implants Intraoculaires EDOF).
