CATARACT

Definition: Progressive or acute opacification of the natural lens.

Symptoms and signs:

  • Decreased vision
  • Poor night vision
  • Monocular double vision
  • Halos,
  • glare and light sensitivity
  • Fading or yellowing of colours

Surgical treatment : Phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation. It’s the only treatment for cataract.

Technical surgery : phacoemulsification

  • One-day surgery
  • Local anaesthesia by eye drops
  • Small corneal incision: 1,8 to 2,2 mm
  • Fragmentation and aspiration of the natural lens with an ultrasonic hand-piece (phacoemulsificator).

Remplacement du cristallin par un implant pliable de trois types :

  1. Permettant uniquement la vision de loin sans correction et corrigeant la myopie, l’hypermétropie et l’astigmatisme;
  2. Permettant la vision éloignée, intermédiaire et rapprochée (Implants Multifocaux);
  3. Permettant la vision éloignée, intermédiaire sans correction (Implants Intraoculaires EDOF).
